In the centre of this unrivalled city, stands the prestigious institution of Govt Post Graduate Colege No 1 Abbottabad.It is a tower of learning which has been spreading its light for more than a century.

Foundation of College

This college was established in 1944 in a rented building on

Mansehra Road

. After independence it was shifted to heart of City in Araya School. In 1954 the Hon`ble Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (N.W.F.P)  Abdull Qayyum Khan laid foundation stone of the present magnificient building at link Road. The building has large spacious and ventilated classrooms. Well equipped science laboratories, air conditioned computer labs and well maintained Libraries. It has vast playground for Sports, Hostels, Masjid.

Classes Started

In the beginning the College imparted education up to Graduation level (BA) and lateron BSc level commenced in 1955. Since then College has rapidly progressed.

In 1965 the College had MSc Physics and MA Economics Classes.

In 1973 MA English, Urdu, MSc Chemistry ans Maths.

In 1986 MSc Botany and MA Political Science.

Now it is rightly called mini university.
